Meet the Butters

About our family: My husband Daniel and I both are Arizona natives who grew up in Mesa. We met in high school and got married in 2016 after 4 years of dating. We lived and fostered in the valley until 2022, when we were blessed to move up to Payson where my husband opened up his Insurance Brokerage. We have two wonderful sons and a baby girl who was born in 2023. We love Rim Country and like to spend our weekends together exploring our beautiful state in the family Jeep. Our other family hobbies include hiking, paddle boarding, camping, and cooking together.

Our Journey to Foster Care

My husband Daniel and I have been married since 2016, and had always talked about wanting to foster and adopt even while talking about our futures in high school…we thought, however, that we would start on this journey much later in life, perhaps after we had a few kids “of our own”. However at the end of 2018, we felt inspired to begin the licensing process, and it’s a good thing we did. Just months later we got a call that the biological mother of one of Daniel’s adopted siblings had given birth to a baby boy, and they needed a place for him. We agreed to take him in right away. Before we knew it, we were fostering this child (who would become our oldest son), as well as a 3 month old baby girl. We went on to adopt two beautiful boys and foster/provide respite for countless other children from newborns to teens, and are still actively involved in the work of foster care. I reflect often on that one phone call that came, seemingly out of the blue, and how that moment changed our lives forever. Personally, it brought me to my life’s mission, to advocate for and nurture children going through some of life’s hardest challenges. Throughout our time as foster parents, we have seen how community supports can make all the difference in a child’s story, as well as a foster parents ability to continue in the important work of child advocacy. The desperate need for these medical, material, and emotional supports in Gila County is what drove us to step into a leadership role and ensure that children in our community have every opportunity to succeed and overcome the obstacles placed in their way.
